When planning a kitchen renovation, one of the most frequent questions is, “How much does a kitchen cost?” Unfortunately, there isn't a straightforward answer. The final cost will depend on a variety of factors unique to your project. Understanding these elements can help you budget effectively, preventing any unexpected expenses that might arise.

The Essential Trades: Electricians and Plumbers

Hiring licensed electricians and plumbers is essential. They will offer quotes based on the specific tasks required. Most kitchens involve a straightforward disconnect and reconnect process, but the scope of work and their quote will naturally reflect this. These trades are present during the removal of your old kitchen to disconnect and typically perform their first fix for the new kitchen. They then usually return the day after installation is completed to complete their work.

At Reedesign Kitchens, we work with trusted professionals who are qualified, licensed, and insured. Once your order is confirmed, they will assess the work scope and give you accurate quotes. If you have your own tradespeople in mind, you are welcome to use them.

Tiling and Splashbacks: A Range of Options

You will need a tiler and tiles or an alternative splashback for your new kitchen- this can vary quite considerably depending on what tile or splashback you choose- If you are anything like me, I can pick out the most expensive tile in the store without even looking at the prices!

Of course there are other options to tiles- painted glass being the most popular.

Removal and Disposal: Clearing Space for the New

Don't forget there's a cost for removing and disposing of your old kitchen. Our removal and disposal services cover the dismantling of your old kitchen and splashback and preparing the gyprock walls for your new installation. If you decide to take on the removal yourself, remember you'll need to restore the walls before the new kitchen can be put in place.

Planning for Structural Changes

If your renovation involves altering the kitchen structure—like removing walls—you will need a qualified builder. Structural changes can raise your budget significantly, sometimes by thousands of dollars depending on the complexity of the project.

Often, we align with the current footprint of your kitchen, but for more significant changes, installing a new floor or making repairs may be necessary.

While this isn't applicable for every renovation- the flooring is another item to budget for. The cost for new flooring can range quite significantly, depending on the materials you select.

Laminate, natural wood, vinyl, tiles and even linonium are just a few choices for new flooring.

A Fresh Coat of Paint

If your kitchen is part of an open-plan space, consider repainting to freshen up the area. New paint can dramatically uplift an area. If you’ve added bulkheads or cornices, be sure to paint these as well, as they often are installed unpainted.

Appliances: New vs. Reuse

A factor to weigh is whether to reuse your current appliances or invest in new ones. Reusing can save you money, but be sure to consider the condition and efficiency of your old appliances. If your old fridge is not energy-efficient, for instance, it could lead to higher bills in the long run.

A appliances can cost anywhere from $500 to $14,000 plus, depending on brand and features. Balance this cost against how well your existing appliances fit into your new kitchen design.

Reedesign Kitchens are happy to help you with all appliances- taps, sinks and range hoods, ovens, cooktops and dishwashers but many clients do purchase their own.

***It’s super important all appliances are on site when we begin installation and all specifications for new appliances are needed prior to order. We like to make sure they fit!

Cabinetry and Benchtops

Of course the choice of finishes is ultimately determines the cost of your kitchen-

Consider the following-

Are you considering laminate benchtops? These are significantly less expensive than our stunning silica-free Mirostone or Dekton options.

Mirostone is a solid surface countertop material that resembles stone in appearance and texture. *I have a separate blog focused on the features of Mirostone.

The cost will also be influenced by the type of door you select—we offer a beautiful Prime board range as well as a builder's range for you to choose from. You can find videos on how they are made on our website.

You can view these finishes in a small sample either at your home or at the selection centre in North Plympton, available for viewing by appointment.

Handles include all options from the available selection, along with high-quality Haffle hardware.

Lighting and Design Elements

Lastly, pay attention to lighting. The right fixtures can enhance functionality and atmosphere. Incorporating under-cabinet lighting can make a significant difference, adding both style and practicality.

Balancing aesthetics with your budget can transform your kitchen from a simple cooking space to an inviting area for family and friends.
